First edition: Letters from the great engraver and members of his family to poet and naturalist John Freeman Milton Dovaston during the last five years of Bewick's life, here published for the first time. The text is introduced by Montague Weekley and illustrated with => a mounted plate of one of Bewick's birds newly printed by hand from the original cut, photographic reproductions of pages from letters and journals, and numerous small vignettes by Bewick.
        Provenance: From the library of American collector Albert A. Howard, small booklabel ("AHA") at rear.

Publisher's mustard-colored paper–covered boards with vellum shelfback, spine with gilt-stamped title, front cover with black-stamped silhouette, in original mustard dust jacket; jacket with spine slightly sunned and three short tears from upper edge of front panel repaired from rear. => Volume and plate in beautiful fresh condition.  (41690)   Please RESHELVE This.
