Carefully curated collection of 351 engravings by Bewick and his pupils, selected by engraver Reynolds Stone (1909–79), who also supplied a biographical introduction. This is the limited edition, with the present example being => numbered copy 658 of 1000 printed, signed at the colophon by Stone.
        Provenance: From the library of American collector Albert A. Howard, small booklabel ("AHA") at rear.

Publisher's maroon cloth, spine with gilt-stamped title, head showing light wear; in original dust jacket with spine and edges sunned, spine dust-soiled and head chipped, front panel with two edge tears (one touching title). Front pastedown with bookseller's small ticket. Pages gently and evenly age-toned; back free endpaper creased. => Copies that are both signed and in the original wrappers are now uncommon.  (41366)   Please RESHELVE This.
