$300.00

The sole German-language printing of Hill's treatise on the herbal drug valerian, used to treat sleep disorders, anxiety and psychological stress. Hill (1714–75), a noted botanist and apothecary, published Valerian, or, the Virtues of that Root in Nervous Disorders; and the Characters which Distinguish the True from the False in 1758 during the period he was enjoying the patronage of Lord Bute.
The work features two => simply lovely hand-colored folding plates of the plant, one of which is signed "A.L.W., sc."
Provenance: From the residue of the stock of the F. Thomas Heller bookselling firm (est. ca. 1928).
Searches of NUC and WorldCat find only two U.S. libraries (CSdS, CLU) reporting ownership.

VD18 11132213; not in Blake, NLM 18th Century; not in Nissen, Botanische Buchillustration. On Hill, see the ODNB. Removed from a nonce volume. Pencil underscoring, but very good condition; the printing was done on very heavy good paper.  (39959)   Please RESHELVE This.
