Horner, William E.  Necrological notice of Dr. Philip Syng Physick; delivered before the American Philosophical Society, May 4, 1838. Philadelphia: Haswell, Barrington, & Haswell, 1838. 8vo (22.4 cm, 8.75"). 32, [4 (adv.)] pp.
$75.00

A most unflattering account of this famous early-American physician and surgeon. It brought forth at least two rebuttals and harsh reviews. Horner was a professor of anatomy in the University of Pennsylvania.
Provenance: On the front wrapper, an inscription to "James . . . with the best respects of the Author." The recipient name's, however, has been mostly clipped away. A pressure-stamp on the title-page also indicates the pamphlet once belonged to the Essex Institute. From the residue of the stock of the F. Thomas Heller bookselling firm (est. ca. 1928).

American Imprints 50885. In brown wrappers, stitched, but stitching loosening; wrappers chipped with some loss to spine, top portion of front wrapper has been clipped, dark spot to rear wrapper. Provenance marks as above; ex-library stamps and numbers on front wrapper and title-page, very faint foxing to leaves, corners turned in.  (39708)   Please RESHELVE This.
