Voltelen (1753–95), a physician and chemist, gave this talk on the then very hot topic of animal magnetism "publice habita Lugduni Batavarum Die viii. Februarii A. MDCCLXXXXI quum magistratum academicum solenniter deponeret." He delivered this evaluation of the theory of animal magnetism upon his resigning from his position at the University of Leyden. It was later translated into Dutch.
        Provenance: From the residue of the stock of the F. Thomas Heller bookselling firm (est. ca. 1928).
        Searches of NUC and WorldCat find only four U.S. libraries reporting ownership (DNLM, PPAmP, MnMBL, KWiU).
