Pope, Alexander. An account of the conversion and death of poor Joseph. To which is added, the dying Christian's address to his soul. [Newcastle-upon-Tyne]: Pr. by J. Marshall, n.d. (ca. 1799? or 1810?). Small 12mo. 8 pp.; illus. $50.00
Here we have a chapbook account of a "poor half-witted man," who was deeply moved by a sermon he heard one day on 1 Timothy i.15 (". . . Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the chief") and came to realize he was equal to all other men in the eyes of Christ. On the title-page is a woodcut of a dying man and another figure standing by his bedside.
Provenance: From the chapbook collection of Albert A. Howard, sans indicia.
